Seismic Triaxial and RIM Qualifications

Clark’s triaxial shake table provides simultaneous motion in the three orthogonal directions for the testing of structurally-mounted equipment (ground or wall-mounted). Our required input motion (RIM) uniaxial table tests equipment used in line-mount- ed applications to ensure that it will withstand the potentially harsh dynamic conditions encountered during a seismic event, a high-energy line break, or from resonance induced pipe rupture.

Vibration Aging

Often prior to seismic qualification is the accelerated dynamic aging (simulated life-span) of a test specimen in its eld-mounted orientation. Sinusoidal sweeps determine the test specimen’s most vulnerable resonant frequency at low acceleration levels, and subsequent dwell periods age the equipment at a given frequency and/or higher acceleration level prior to seismic exposure.

Mechanical (Cycle) Aging

Unique to each test specimen are its functional and design-basis lifetime requirements. Clark’s facilities have the equipment and technical expertise to test a variety of components for mechanical fatigue and failure, life cycle, aging, accelerated aging, and simulation that is common to the power generation industry. Common test specimens include valves, pumps and actuators.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)

Common to automated systems and electronics in the industry is the requirement to ensure electromagnetic compatibility of components and mitigate vulnerability to outside sources. Emissions and Immunity analysis provides insight as to the potentially undesirable propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy and radiofrequency interference. Clark’s EMC lab is ISO 17025 accredited and enveloped under the 10 CFR 50 Appendix B program maintained by Clark Dynamics.

Thermal Aging

Clark Dynamics has the environmental chambers to accelerate aging and validate functional performance for longer plant-life expectancy. Clark can accommodate large component aging for extended periods simulating containment internal conditions as high as 170C.

Radiation Aging and LOCA

Clark’s engineering services can help you determine the proper amount of radiation exposure required for your quali cation program or temperature and pressure pro le for LOCA screening based on equipment location.

Documentation

While physical testing is an important part of any quali cation program, even more crucial is proper documentation. Clark’s engineers are experienced with acceptable industry practices and standards to ensure your quali cation program is completely and comprehensively documented.

Engineering Services

Clark employs a professional staff of engineers qualified to assist you in the following areas:

  • Structural Design & Analysis
