Aerial Lift and Scissor Lift Testing

Recently, OSHA authorized new ANSI standards for all users and manufacturers of aerial lifts and scissor lifts. Along with the changes in the codes, ANSI also reclassified the name of the lifts as Mobile Elevating Work Platforms or (MEWPs).

MEWP's are divided into two classifications (Group A & Group B).

  • Group A will be defined as MEWP's "in which the vertical projection of the center of the platform area" always stays within the tipping lines (i.e. Scissor Lifts).
  • Group B is characterized as "MEWP's not in Group A". These are vehicles where the platform can extend with a telescopic handlers.

Clark Testing provides testing, validation and certification for manufactures of MEWPs in order to comply with the standards and meet the specific regulations. The Standard that applies to aerial lift and MEWPs include the following:

  • OSHA Standards: 29 CFR 1910.67, 29 CFR 1910.269(p), 29 CFR 1926.21, 29 CFR 1926.453, 29 CFR 1926.502.
  • American National Standards Institutes standards: ANSI/SIA A92.2-1969, ANSI/SIA A92.3, ANSI/SIA A92.5, ANSI/SIA A92.6.A92.22 and A92.24 combined the old standards ANSI/SAIA A92.3, ANSI/SAIA 92.5, ANSI/SAIA 92.6 and ANSI/SAIA 92.8.

Clark has conducted a number of test programs for manufactures of aerial lifts and scissor lifts to qualify the equipment for field use. We have also completed benchmark studies doing a comparative analysis of various manufacturer’s products to determine product features and competitive advantages.

In addition to our mechanical testing services, Clark Testing also provides analytical services on lubricants, hydraulic fluids and grease. Our analytical laboratory is ISO 17025 accredited and is the lead laboratory that directs the ASTM D02 PTP program. Lubrication analysis at Clark is conducted in accordance with ASTM and ISO specifications for quality assurance, compatibility analysis, production validation and certification of specifications. We also offer tribology, or Condition Monitoring Services (CMS), to analyze for wear debris that can cause forced outages. Clark’s condition monitoring services support preventative maintaince initiavites to asses the health of indsutrail equipment.
