Altitude

Clark Testing’s Altitude testing chamber simulates the air pressure changes that can be experienced at various elevations. When exposed to these conditions components could possibility experience failure due to high altitude stress.

Typically altitude testing is done as a pass or fail test. Items such as shipping containers may burst if the internal pressure of the flexible packaging cannot be equalized while experience variations in altitudes. This condition may cause additional packaging costs on the shipper when the use of a partial or full vacuum on the package is in order to negate the effects of higher elevations.

 

Pressure differences can cause stress on any enclosed volume. These pressure differences can occur during both flight and commercial trucking. Flight levels of up to 43,000 ft. are common in commercial aircraft and sometimes altitudes of up to 12,000 feet can be reached during truck transport. Altitude testing helps provide peace of mind that the product will be safe during transport.
